-------------------------------------- Symposium A Happy 030 Experience -------------------------------------- By Pharao/Cromatics Being a newcomer to the scene, I looked very much forward to the Symposium-Mekka. In most ways, my expectations were fulfilled. The Symposium-Mekka were full of creative people. Nearly eveyone had something going. Not the TP style, where most of the people were pc lamers, playing Quake VI or downloading 50 MB porn movies. Me and my group (Cromatics), were very excited also, because we were going to release our second 40k intro. We thought we were nearly finished when we arrived, but as most of you will know, there is no such thing as a nearly finished production. And so, we slaved all night and all day, until finally 5 minutes before deadline, when we had to deliver the intro to the organizers. The intro was still buggy; we couldn't get rid of the sprites, and we hadn't time to make all the in-between (you know fades, and such) routines. Nevertheless, when the competition started I sat, edgy and with butterflies in my stomach; looking forward to seeing our production on the big screen. Then #9. It was our intro. But when it began my mouth fell wide open. Our beautiful code ( :) hmmm.. ) was reduced to nothing short of slow mooo. The organizers had promised to show the contributions on a 060, and therefore we had made the effects to run on a 060, but i was convinced they showed it on a 68030. I was right. It seemed that because of a long precalc time on the 060, the organizers had thought that it didn't work on this cpu. (we precalc some tables with the fpu)». This even when i had included a readme called IMPORTANT_NOTE_TO_ORGANIZERS. I was embarassed to have such slow moving code shown to the public. But the friendly organizers made it up to us as best they could. Before the amiga demos, our 40k intro has been promised to be shown with an apology. I am as happy as I can be be. Understand I didn't make all this fuss because I think we were going to win (we're definetely not). But I just want to have our intro shown on equal terms with everybody else. But everything turns out fine, and I am having great time on the party (except for 10 angry minutes). A happy 030 experience!:)
