Who Do We Respect? by the Generation Team There are some names in our Scene that have managed to do what most people can only dream of: to earn the respect of sceners. We all know who they are - people of the past and present - people like: Facet, Chaos, Offa and Moby. Groups like: TBL, Sanity, Artwork and Anarchy. But why do we have such admiration for these people and groups? We (the Gen-collective) thought it would be "interesting" to explore some of the reasons in this article/list...whatever you want to call it. The explanations we're about to give may seem obvious to most, but we still thought it justified to highlight these guys - just so they know their outstanding work hasn't gone unnoticed. So, who do we respect? The Mekka Symposium Organisers We respect this conglomerate of Sceners for once again having pushed the limits and improved the party series once again. Almost no Quakers, peaceful fun for 900 paying guests, improved conditions and these extremely strange special events let minor troubles such as delayed competitions and weak INet access be forgotten. Do it again, men! Abyss We respect Pink, Spin, Cyclone and the rest for the mass of splendid releases throughout 1997 and early 1998. For unknown reasons you guys have not won the Mekka Symposium'98 democontest, despite releasing the by far best release there (seemingly no Bobs! Impressive!). Without any irony or sarcasm it can be said that Abyss would be the number one group of 1998... Would be since as it seems the group nears its end with the quitting of essential members if we may believe in statements from their own rows. Well, actually the Generation staff hopes that this was just the storm in the waterglass and that we'll see them in full effect throughout the whole year and beyond. Mellow Chips/TRSI We respect the finnish group for their second hotstepping Lightwave scene in a row. This is not the place to discuss if 'Rise' still is a demo or rather an animation. This shall be the place to say: Welldone guys, the most beautiful scenes on Amiga so far. Nature We respect this still quite unknown swedish group for releasing two great and innovative demos which surely will be remembered at the end of this year. 'Kicker' truely deserved its name and if you continue in this tempo, you surely will witness a 'Standard Raise' in popularity. Muffler/Haujobb(?) We respect the finnish musician for having managed to infiltrate each and every demo or intro in the upper spheres of recent competitions with his notorious industrial drums and bassdrums music. Actually it seems like while being on this wave, he already overlived the fame of his brother Heatbeat/CNCD, which alone is an impressive deed, although the older one still seems to be more extravagant and elegant when it comes to composing. Rebirth rules, right? Clary/Crux We respect the french coderesse for competing for the third time in a row in the democompetition at Mekka Symposium with the same demo. Just kidding, we really love the Calvin and Hobbes animation. For the fun we had the last three years with your demos (not to forget your comrades from Drifters/Crux), you receive an extra handshake. And congrats: You finally managed to beat Artwork in a competition! Now is that a dream coming true?
